Roses are red, violets are blue, We may be at war... but we're missing YOU - The Sun

FRONTLINE heroes show their tender side today — by sending touching Valentine’s messages to their sweethearts at home. Hundreds of service personnel used the forces’ favourite paper to dispatch romantic greetings.

Many are in grave danger in worldwide hotspots like Iraq, Afghanistan, the Middle East or on the high seas.

But that didn’t stop them taking a moment for a quick smooch — via The Sun.

Among those to send his love is cheeky Craftsman Simon Bidgood in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

Posing nude in front of a giant spanner, the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineer tells his girlfriend Chandra: “Look what you’re missing!”

Cpl Bill Callister, also in Afghanistan, says to “Aliwallywoowoopie” in Plymouth: “To my beautiful wife and Bump. Can’t wait to get home to see you and meet the little one.”

Jay Stevens, of A Squadron QRH in Iraq, sends his love to Rachel. He says: “Babe, I miss you loads and can’t wait to see you and the tribe. Home soon Hun.”

AB(MW) Duncan Crooks — aboard HMS Blyth in the Gulf — writes: “To my beautiful girlfriend Kirsty, kiss you so much and can’t wait to be with you.”
