Blast victims set to tackle Channel - The Sun
A SQUADDIE who lost a leg just a month into his Afghanistan tour is training to swim the English Channel for Help for Heroes.
Grenadier guardsman Scott Blaney, 22, was determined his injuries would not stop him.
And he is one of five wounded soldiers being treated at Headley Court Military Hospital, in Surrey, who will swim the 22-mile Channel for the £20million appeal.
His team-mates include RAF Senior Aircraftsman Mike Goody, 23, of Littlehampton, West Sussex. He suffered multiple fractures in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan.
Scott, of Nuneaton, Warwicks, was on patrol in Helmand when a Taliban bomb exploded.
He lost his right leg and suffered shrapnel wounds to an arm and eye.
But he recovered to become the first amputee to go on Queen’s Guard training, and stood sentry at the Tower of London.
Organiser Maj Hamish McCarthy said: “The lads have shown incredible bravery and determination.”

The Sun's Auction For Heroes campaign is great. To help those who have suffered fighting for 'OUR' freedom is probably the best thing any of us could do today.
ReplyDeleteHelp For Heroes (the charity The Sun supports) does for our service men and woman what the government fail to do - help and support our troops!
If we all did a little it would help a great deal.
I've joined The Sun's Auction For Heroes and have pledged a donation from the sale of my Storebro Royal Classic Cabin Cruiser on Ebay.
