£3bn Taliban drug haul pyre - The Sun

ABOUT £3billion of Taliban drug profits go up in smoke as the world’s largest heroin haul is burned.

The giant consignment seized in Afghanistan by British-led cops was torched at an allied airfield yesterday.

A huge cloud of smoke rose over the pyre in Lashkar Gah, Helmand.

The drugs were destined for the UK to fund Taliban attacks on British troops. They included 19 tons of poppy seeds — enough to make 33 tons of heroin worth £900million even before it is cut.

A team of six UK officers has been in Helmand for a year training Afghan cops. Senior policing mentor Dave Wright said: “We’re turning a corner.”
